Title I : FAQ

What is Title I?

Title I is a federal program under No Child Left Behind that provides supplementary funding to improve academic achievement.  The focus is closing the achievement gap between the “high and low performing” children, especially the social economically disadvantaged children. Schools are provided Title I supplementary funding based upon the percentage of students in their attendance area who qualify for free or reduced lunch.

Lone Star's Title I Reading Clinic is NOT a Special Education program.  It is for students in grades K-3 who are reading slightly below grade level and may need extra help.  Various learning materials and methods of instruction are used to meet curricular goals and the rigid state requirements in Language Arts.

Title I instruction encompasses the essential components (building blocks) of reading:

·         Phonics

·         Phonemic awareness

·         Vocabulary development

·         Reading fluency

·         Reading comprehension strategies

Resource Room Daily Schedule

Reading:

Kindergarten:  Reading Resource Room = Mon. - Thurs. = 30 min.

1st Grade: Reading Resource Room = Mon. - Fri. = 45 min.

2nd Grade: Reading Resource Room = Mon. - Thurs. = 45 min.

3rd Grade: In Class Reading Block = Mon. - Fri. =  45 min.

AND Mon. - Thurs. = 30 min. = In Reading Resource Room (IF NEEDED)

4th Grade: In Class Reading Block = Mon. - Fri. = 45 min.

TEACHER'S TABLET:

The Lone Star Reading Clinic offers individual literacy support five days per week.  Our daily schedule consists of sight word review, vocabulary development, word attack skill practice, building fluency, and learning comprehension strategies.  Below are a few of the research based material that make up our curriculum:

Dolch Sight Word Lists:

The Dolch words are the 220 most frequently found words.  Students who learn these words have a good base for beginning reading.  Many of these words cannot be sounded out because they do not follow decoding rules.  These words must be learned as sight words
